Me & Treasure (Left) My daughter when she was 1, My husband (middle) and our leadline pony Handsome Coco (Right). Very pretty show grounds, Obstinate J Ranch, Southern Oregon. |
When schooled regularly he wins in both the hunters and jumpers. That is what is so great about him he can do both without getting confused. But he's not a dull horse by all means. He is actually very sensitive. He still bucks when he's fresh on his lead changes! He also can wake up and be pretty forward. He changes like the seasons. And to ride a course consistently is a challenge. His form isn't the greatest either. He can be flat and not put any effort in jumps under 4'. He makes a great equitation mount because he doesn't jostle you out of the saddle on the big fences. I find he is best at 3'6" any less and his knees are loose. It is best to keep him tight and correct in gridwork. He makes up for his form because he can flow on course when he really settles in to his job. |
Treasure dreams of someday being a dressage horse. Maybe we will do it. He is a perfectionist, swaps his changes every other stride. He lives to do the extended trot across the diagonal. We mostly practice our flat work in the winter time because I don't like to jump indoors! He has a canter to die for. It is the most comfortable and rythmical gait. He is light on his feet. He also comes to me at a full gallop when I whistle!
A dude
ranch horse! No just kidding! He loves western too! So do I!
